Billy the Llama Free Crochet Pattern

If llamas are cute I think we can all agree that baby llamas are adorable!


Did you know that llamas are sweet, caring and intelligent animals?

...and there's something so fun about their goofy faces that makes this creatures so special.


This week I want to share with you all a very easy and fun crochet pattern to create a lovely baby llama...his name is Billy!



The finished doll is approximately 7" tall.

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

YARN: Medium Weight Cotton Yarn (Lace 4) in Brown, White, Black and Pink

OTHER MATERIALS: Polyester Fiber Filling; White Felt; Two 12mm Black Plastic Safety Eyes; Yarn Needle

HOOK SIZES: E/3.25 mm

STITCHES USED and ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), decrease (dec), increase (inc), fasten off (F/O).

INSTRUCTIONS: work in rounds (join with a sl st and ch1 at the end of each round) otherwise instructed.

HEAD (brown yarn)

1) 8 sc in a mr (8)

2) sc inc around (16)

3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)

4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (32)

5) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (40)

6-15) sc even (40)

Cut two rounded pieces of white felt (6/8” diameter). Create a hole with your scissor and insert the safety eyes in it. Place the eyes between rounds #10-11, 7 sts apart.

16) *3 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (32)

17) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (24)

18) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (16); F/O and cut the yarn.

Stuff the head firmly


Embroider the CHEEKS with pink yarn (between rnds #12-13).


MUZZLE (white yarn)

1) 8 sc in a mr (8)

2) sc inc around (16)

3-4) sc even (16)

F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the muzzle to the front of the head (between rnds #9-15). Stuff the muzzle as you attach it.


Embroider the NOSE with black yarn.


HAIR CURLS (brown yarn)

Long:

1) 16 ch, 3 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 3 sc in each st (45)

Medium:

1) 13 ch, 3 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 3 sc in each st (36)

Short:

1) 10 ch, 3 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 3 sc in each st (27)

Sew one end of the curl on top of the head between rnds # 2-3.


EARS (brown yarn; make two)

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) *2 sc, 1 sc inc *, repeat ** twice (8)

3) *3 sc, 1 sc inc *, repeat ** twice (10)

4-7) sc even (10)

8) sc dec around (5); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the ear on top of the head.

Attach the ears between rnds #4-5. Do not stuff the ears.


BODY (brown yarn)

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) sc inc around (12)

3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (18)

4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)

5) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (30)

6) *4 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (36)

7-9) sc even (36)

10) [9 sc, (*1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** 3 times), 9 sc, (*1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** 3 times)] (30)

11) [9 sc, (*1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice), 9 sc, (*1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice)] (26)

12) [7 sc, (*1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice), 13] (24); start stuffing the body

13) 7 sc, 3 sc dec, 11 sc (21)

14) 4 sc, 5 sc dec, 7 sc (16)

15-18) sc even (16); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the body to the head.

Finish stuffing the body firmly.


LEGS (brown yarn; make 4)

1) 8 sc in a mr (8)

2-3) sc even (8); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the leg to the bottom of the body.


TAIL (brown yarn)

1) 5 ch, 1 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 3 sc (4)

F/O and leave a long string of yarn to sew the tail to the back of the body between rnds #9-10.
