September has finally started and it's now time to start planning for the spookiest event of the year...HALLOWEEN!
I thought of coming in your help by designing one of the most classic Halloween icons
...Frankenstein...
This project is also a tribute to one of my favorite movies of all time... Young Frankenstein!
The nice thing about creating this Creature is that you won't need anything else other than just a crochet hook and some yarn!
The finished doll is about 6.5" tall.

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner/ Intermediate
YARN: Medium Weight Cotton Yarn (Lace 4) in Black, Green, Purple, Grey and Red
OTHER MATERIALS: Polyester Fiber Filling; 6 mm Plastic Safety Eyes (2)
HOOK SIZES: E/3.50 mm; 2.75 mm
STITCHES USED and ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), decrease (dec), increase (inc,) fasten off (F/O).
INSTRUCTIONS: work in rows (join with a sl st and ch1 at the end of each row) otherwise instructed.

HEAD (black and green yarn; 3.5 mm hook)
1) starting off with black yarn, 6 sc in a mr (6)
2) sc inc around (12)
3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (18)
4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)
5) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (30)
6) *4 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (36)
7) *5 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (42)
8) *6 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (48)
9) sc even (48)
10) *2 sc with black yarn, 2 sc with green yarn*, repeat ** 6 times, switch to black, work 24 sc (48)
11) 1 sc with black yarn, 4 sc with green yarn, [*1 sc with black yarn, 3 sc with green yarn*, repeat ** 4 times], 1 sc with black yarn, 4 sc with green yarn, 22 sc with black yarn (48)
12) working with green yarn only, 48 sc (48)
13-19) sc even (48)
Place eyes between rounds #14-15; the 1st eye between stitches #7-8, the 2nd one between stitches #20-21.
20) *4 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (40); start stuffing the head
21) *3 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (32)
22) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (24)
23) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (18); finish stuffing
24) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (12); F/O and cut the yarn
Embroider SCARS and EYEBROWS with black yarn.
Embroider the MOUTH with red yarn (between rounds #18-19).
Embroider the NOSE with green yarn (between rounds #15-16).
SCREWS (grey yarn; make two; 2.75 mm hook)
1) 6 sc in a mr (6)
2) sc inc around (12); do not ch1
3) 12 sl st (12); ch1 and turn
4) 12 sc (12)
5) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (8)
F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to attach the screw to the side of the head.
LEGS AND BODY (black, grey, purple and green yarn; 3.5 mm hook)
Make two:
1) starting off with black yarn, 8 sc in a mr (8)
2) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (10)
3) sc even (10)
4) switch to grey yarn, sc even (10)
5-8) sc even (10); F/O and hide the yarn and stuff the leg
Do no cut the yarn once you have completed the 2nd leg, CH 2 INSTEAD.
Merge the two legs together:
9) join the yarn to the 2nd leg with a sl st, ch1 and sc in the same st, crochet around 9 sc, 1 hdc in each st between the two legs, keep working on the other leg, 10 sc, 1 sc in each st between the two legs (24)
10-11) sc even (24)
12) switch to purple yarn, sc even (24)
13-17) sc even (24)
18) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (18); keep stuffing the body
19) working in FLO, sc even (18); F/O the purple yarn
20) join the green yarn in the BLO of the first st of round 19, sc even (18)
21) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (12); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the body to the head. Finish stuffing before attaching the body to the head.
ARMS (green and purple yarn; make two; 3.5 mm hook)
1) starting off with green yarn, 6 sc in a mr (6)
2) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (8)
3) sc even (8)
4) switch to purple yarn, sc even (8)
5-8) sc even (8)
9) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice (6); stuff the arm lightly
10) flatten the arm and crochet through both layers, 3 sc (3); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the arm to the side of the body.
