Hammerhead Shark Free Crochet Pattern

A little Hammerhead Shark has joined my amigurumi collection and I'm excited to share the crochet instructions with you.


No worries...he doesn't have big and scary jaws! He's all about friendly big eyes and a cute little smile!


This crocheted Hammerhead Shark would make a lovely baby shower gift, a great nursery décor, or just a fun gift for anyone who loves sharks and ocean life!

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

YARN: Medium Weight Cotton Yarn (Lace 4) in Grey, Turquoise and Black

OTHER MATERIALS: Polyester Fiber Filling, 10 mm Plastic Safety Eyes (2), White Felt

HOOK SIZE: 3.5 mm

STITCHES USED and ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), back loop only (BLO), decrease (dec), increase (inc), fasten off (F/O).

INSTRUCTIONS: work in rows (join with a sl st and ch1 at the end of each row) otherwise instructed.

HEAD (grey yarn)

1) 27 ch, 2 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 24 sc, 2 inc in the last st, keep working on the other side of the foundation chain, 24 sc, 1 inc in the last st, that already contains 2 sc (56)

2) *1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc, 22 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (64)

3) *1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc, 26 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (72)

4-12) sc even (72)

Cut two rounded pieces of white felt, create a hole in them with the help of a pair of scissors. Insert the plastic safety eyes in the hole. Place the eyes between rounds 5/6, 9 stitches apart.

13) working in BLO, *2 sc, 1 dec*, repeat ** around (54)

14) working in both loops now, *2 sc, 1 dec*, repeat ** 13 times, 1 dec (40)

15) *2 sc, dec*, repeat ** around (30); start stuffing the head

16) *3 sc, dec*, repeat ** around (24); F/O and finish stuffing the head firmly


Embroider the V-shaped MOUTH and the EYEBROWS with some black yarn.


CHEEKS (turquoise yarn)

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) inc around (12)

3) *1 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** around (18); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the

cheeks onto the doll’s face between rounds 6/11.


CAUDAL FINS (grey and turquoise yarn)

Make two:

1) start working with grey yarn, 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) *2 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (8)

3) *3 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (10)

4) *4 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (12)

5-6) sc even (12)

7) *1 sc, 1 dec*, repeat ** around (8); F/O and hide the yarn.

Do not stuff the fins.

Do no cut the yarn once you have completed the 2nd fin…

Merge the two fins together:

8) join the yarn with a sl st to the 1st fin, ch 1 and sc in the same st, 1 dec, 5 sc, keep crocheting on the 2nd fin, 1 dec, 6 sc (14)

9) *5 sc, 1 dec*, repeat ** twice (12)

10) sc even (12)

11) 4 dec, 4 inc (12)

12) 3 dec, 4 inc, 1 dec (12)

13) 5 sc, 2 inc, 5 sc (14)

14) 6 sc, 2 inc, 6 sc (16)

15) switch to turquoise yarn, *1 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** around (24)

16) switch to grey yarn, *3 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** around (30)

17) switch to turquoise yarn, sc even (30)

18) switch to grey yarn, sc even (30)

19) switch to turquoise yarn, sc even (30)

20) switch to grey yarn, sc even (30)

21) switch to turquoise yarn, *3 sc, 1 dec*, repeat ** around (24)

22) switch to grey yarn, sc even (24)

23) switch to turquoise yarn, sc even (24)

24) switch to grey yarn, sc even (24); stuff the body, except for the caudal fins

25-26) sc even (24); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn for attaching the body to the head.


PECTORAL FINS (grey yarn; make two)

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) *2 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (8)

3) *3 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (10)

4) *3 sc, 1 dec*, repeat ** twice (8);

F/O and leave a long tail of yarn for sewing the fin between rounds 18/21 of the body.


DORSAL FIN (grey yarn)

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) *2 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (8)

3-4) *3 sc, 1 inc*, repeat ** twice (10)

5) *3 sc, 1 dec*, repeat ** twice (8);

F/O and leave a long tail of yarn for sewing the fin between rounds 18/21of the back of the body.
