Hazel the Bear Free Crochet Pattern

Happy Tuesday my fellow crafters!


There’s nothing like a handmade teddy bear to evoke memories of childhood and create new ones for the future. I recently finished crocheting this adorable bear, and I’m excited to share the process with you all. This little bear is more than just a toy; he's a bundle of love and joy, perfect for snuggling.

Crochet hook size F (3.75 mm)

Plastic Safety Eyes (10 mm)

Black embroidery thread

White embroidery thread

Embroidery Needle

Poly Filling

About 8 in. (20 cm) tall.

Body & Head

With A make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in ring.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 16 sc.

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 24 sc.

Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 32 sc.

Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 40 sc.

Rnd 6: Sc in each st around – 40 sc.

Rnd 7: (sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 48 sc.

Rnd 8: Sc in each st around – 48 sc.

Rnd 9: (sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 56 sc.

Rnds 10 - 16: Sc in each st around – 56 sc.

Rnd 18: (sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 48 sc.

Rnds 19 - 20: Sc in each st around – 48 sc.

Rnd 20: (sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 40 sc.

Rnds 21 - 22: Sc in each st around – 40 sc.

Rnd 23: (sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 32 sc.

Rnd 24: (sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 24 sc.

 

Begin stuffing the Body and continue until piece is complete.

 

Rnd 25: working in front loop only, 2 sc in each st around – 48 sc.

Rnd 26: working in both loops now, (sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 54 sc.

Rnd 27: (sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 60 sc.

Rnds 28 - 32: Sc in each st around – 60 sc.

Rnd 33: (sc in next 8 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 54 sc.

Rnd 34: Sc in each st around – 54 sc.

Rnd 35: (sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 48 sc.

 

Rnds 36 - 37: Sc in each st around – 48 sc.

 

Insert safety eyes between Rnds 34 and 35, approximately 10 sts apart.

 

Rnd 38: (sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 40 sc.

Rnds 39 - 41: Sc in each st around – 40 sc.

Rnd 42: (sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 32 sc.

Rnd 43: (sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 24 sc.

Rnd 44: (sc in next st, sc2tog) rep around – 16 sc.

Rnd 45: sc2tog around – 8 sc.

 

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through top of sts of last rnd. Pull tail to close opening and knot securely.

 

With white thread, embroider curves along outer edges of safety eyes for white of eyes.

With black thread, embroider curves along upper edges of safety eyes for black of eyes.

With black thread, embroider curves above eyes for eyelashes.


Snout

With B make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in ring.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 16 sc.

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 24 sc.

Rnds 4 - 7: Sc in each st around – 24 sc.

 

Fasten off and leave a strand to sew Snout to Head between Rnds 27 and 34. Stuff the Snout while sewing it to Head.

 

With black thread, embroider straight lines on tip of Snout and a vertical line for Nose.


Ears (make two)

With A make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in ring.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 16 sc.

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 24 sc.

Rnds 4 - 6: Sc in each st around – 24 sc.

 

Fasten off and leave a strand of yarn. Flatten Ears before sewing them to the side of the Head between Rnds 33 and 42. Do not stuff Ears.





Back Legs (make two)

Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in ring.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sc.

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 18 sc.

Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 24 sc.

Rnd 5: With A, (sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 30 sc.

Rnd 6: Sc in each st around – 30 sc.

Rnd 7: (sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) rep twice, sc in next 14 sts, (sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) rep twice – 26 sc.

Rnd 8: Sc in each st around – 26 sc.

Rnd 9: Sc in next 6 sts, sc2tog 7 times, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog – 18 sc.

Rnd 10: (sc in next st, sc2tog) rep around – 12 sc.

Rnd 11: Sc in each st around – 12 sc.

Rnd 12: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 18 sc.

Rnds 13 - 14: Sc in each st around – 18 sc.

Rnd 15: (sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 24 sc.

Rnd 16: (sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep around – 30 sc.

Rnd 17: Sc in each st around – 30 sc.

 

Stuff the Back Leg. Keep the stuffing light between Rnds 15 and 21.

 

Rnd 18: (sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 24 sc.

Rnd 19: (sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) rep around – 18 sc.

Rnd 20: (sc in next st, sc2tog) rep around – 12 sc.

Rnd 21: sc2tog around – 6 sc.

 

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through top of sts of last rnd. Pull tail to close opening and knot securely.

 

Flatten the section between Rnds 15 and 21, secure it place and only sew that section to the side of the Body.



Front Legs (make two)

With B make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in ring.

Rnds 2: 2 sc in each st around – 16 sc.

Rnd 3: With A, sc in each st around – 16 sc.

Rnds 4 - 5: Sc in each st around – 16 sc.

Rnd 6: Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog twice, sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts – 16 sc.

Rnds 7 - 9: Sc in each st around – 16 sc.

Rnd 10: Sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog four times, sc in next st – 12 sc.

Rnds 11 - 13: Sc in each st around – 12 sc.

Rnd 14: (sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog) rep twice – 10 sc.

Rnd 15: Sc in each st around – 10 sc.

 

Fasten off and leave a strand of yarn. Stuff Legs lightly.

Sew Front Legs to Body between Rnds 18 and 22.



Tail

With A make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in ring.

Rnd 2: (sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep twice – 8 sc.

Rnd 3: Sc in each st around – 8 sc.

Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) rep twice – 6 sc.

 

Fasten off and leave a long strand to sew Tail to back of Body between Rnds 8 and 9.
