As a passionate amigurumi designer, sometimes I find difficult stopping my creative process to write down patterns or take pictures of the work in progress.
...and this is exactly what happened months ago when I was working on a cute little koala that I afterward named Magnum.
I remember myself scrabbling just few (unreadable) notes while stitching up this new character and being sure I would later be able to go through them to write a first draft of the pattern. I couldn’t be more wrong 😁!
So few days ago I decided to take the time to review the instructions and give you all the chance to create your own little koala!
Here's the FREE pattern!
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate
YARN: Medium Worsted in Light Gray, Blue, White, Black and Pink
HOOK SIZES: D-3 / 3.25 mm
OTHER MATERIALS: Polyester Fiber Filling
DIMENSION: H. 8” x W. 5” x D. 3”
STITCHES USED and ABBREVIATIONS: stitch (st), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), reverse single crochet (reverse sc), decrease (dec), increase (inc), back loop only (BLO), fasten off (F/O), magic ring (mr)
INSTRUCTION: join at the end of each round and ch1, otherwise instructed

LEGS AND BODY (light gray, blue and white yarn)
Make two:
1) starting off with light gray yarn, 6 sc in a mr (6)
2) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (9)
3-12) sc even (9); F/O and stuff the leg
Do no cut the yarn once you have completed the 2nd leg, CH 10 INSTEAD.
Merge the two legs together:
13) join the yarn with a sl st to the 1st leg, ch1 and sc in the same st, crochet around 9 sc, 1 hdc in each ch between the two legs, keep working on the 2nd leg, 10 sc, 1 hdc in each ch between the two legs (38)
14-18) sc even (38); keep stuff the body as you go
19) switch to blue yarn, 4 sc, 1 sc dec, 18 sc, 1 sc dec, 12 sc (36)
…from now on you work with both blue and white yarn…
20) *4 sc with blue, 2 sc with white*, repeat ** around (36)
21) repeat rnd #20 (36)
22) keep working with blue yarn, sc even (36)
23) *1 sc with blue, 2 sc with white, 3 sc with blue*, repeat ** around (36)
24) repeat rnd #23 (36)
25) keep working with blue yarn, *4 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (30)
26) 1 sc with white, [*3 sc with blue, 2 sc with white*, repeat ** 5 times], 3 sc with blue, 1 sc with white (30)
27) repeat rnd #26 (30)
28) working with blue yarn only, sc even (30)
29) switch to white yarn, *3 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (24)
30) switch to light gray yarn, working in BLO, sc even (24); F/O and leave a long tail to sew the body to the head. Finish stuffing the body firmly.

4) sc even (18); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the nose onto the head (between rnds #8-15).
Stuff moderately as you sew it.
Embroider the EYES with black yarn as shown in the picture (between rnds #9-13).
Embroider the MOUTH LINE with black yarn (between rnds #15-18).
EARS (light gray and white yarn; make two)
Part A:
1) 8 sc in a magic ring (8)
2) sc inc around (16)
3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)
4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (32)
5) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (40)
6) *4 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (48)
7) sc even (48)
8) fold the piece in half and crochet through both layers, 24 sc (24); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn.
Part B:
1) 5 sc in a magic ring, do not close the ring (8); ch 1 and turn
2) sc inc in each st (10); ch 1 and turn
3) sc even (10); ch1 and turn
4) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** 5 times (15); ch1 and turn
5) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** 5 times (20); ch1, DO NOT TURN
6) work 20 reverse sc (20); F/O and leave a long tail to sew part B to part A as shown in the pictures.
Sew the ears to the side of the head between rnds # 6-21.
Embroider the CHEEKS with pink yarn (between rnds #14-15).
ARMS (light gray, white and blue yarn; make two)
1) starting with light gray yarn, 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
2) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (8)
3-10) sc even (8)
11) switch to white yarn, sc even (8)
12) switch to blue yarn, sc even (8)
13-15) sc even (8); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to attach the arm to the side of the body, between rnds # 26-28. Stuff the arm lightly.
TAIL (light gray yarn)
1) 6 sc in a mr (6)
2-3) sc even (6); F/O and leave a long string of yarn to attach the tail to the back of the body between rnds # 16-18. Do not stuff the tail.
