Sunflowers Free Crochet Pattern




Flowers have the power to lift up our spirit, to chase away negative thoughts and to give us energy and happiness...and sunflowers, with their brightness and warmth, as the sweet summer sun, can bring a smile to our face.


Difficult times, like the ones we have been living in since few months now, scream for happy and beautiful things!...so I hope this easy project I'm sharing today with you all will bring some positive vibes to your day!


These beautiful sunflowers are a great summer decor to brighten up every room in your house!




Here's the FREE pattern!


SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

YARN: Medium Weight Cotton Yarn (Lace 4) in Dark Brown, Yellow, Light Brown and Green

OTHER MATERIALS: Polyester Fiber Filling; Yarn Needle; Metal Wire or Wooden Stick

HOOK SIZES: 2.5 mm

STITCHES USED and ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), treble crochet (tr), back loop only (BLO), front loop only (FLO), decrease (dec), increase (inc), fasten off (F/O).

INSTRUCTIONS: work in rounds (join with a sl st and ch1 at the end of each round) unless otherwise instructed.

DISK AND STEM (dark brown, light brown and green)

1) starting off with dark brown yarn, 8 sc in a mr (8)

2) sc inc around (16)

3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)

4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (32)

5) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (40)

6) *4 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (48)

7-8) sc even (48)

9) working in BLO, *4 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (40)

10) *3 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (32)

11) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (24)

12) switch to light brown yarn, *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (16)

13) switch to green yarn, sc dec around (8)

stuff the disk before starting to crochet the stem

14) sc even (8)

15) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (6)

16-57) sc even (6); F/O, cut and hide the yarn


PETALS (yellow yarn)

1) join the yarn in the FLO of any one stitch of round 8 of the disk, hdc even (48)

start working in row from now on (ch1 and turn at the end of each row)

2) 6 sc (6); ch1 and turn

3-5) 6 sc (6); ch1 and turn

6) 2 sc, 1 sc dec, 2 sc (5); ch1 and turn

7) 2 sc, 1 sc dec, 1 sc (4); ch1 and turn

8) 1 sc, 1 sc dec, 1 sc (3); ch1 and turn

9) 1 sc, 1 sc dec (2); ch1 and turn

10) 1 sc dec (1); F/O and cut the yarn

Join the yarn in stitch #7 of round #1 and repeat rounds #2-10.

Repeat 6 times more, to obtain a total of 8 petals.


SMALL LEAF (green yarn)

1) 13 ch, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 2 sc, 3 hdc, 1 dc, 1 dc inc, 3 tr inc, (1 tr, 2 ch, 1 sl st in the last ch), keep working on the opposite side of the foundation chain, 2 ch, 1 tr, 3 tr inc, 1 dc inc, 1 dc, 3 hdc, 3 sc, join with a sl st.

Attach the leaf to the stem at the desire height.


LARGE LEAF (green yarn)

1) 16 ch, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 3 sc, 3 hdc, 1 dc, 3 dc inc, 3 tr inc, (1 tr, 2 ch, 1 sl st in the last ch), keep working on the opposite side of the foundation chain, 2 ch, 1 tr, 3 tr inc, 3 dc inc, 1 dc, 3 hdc, 4 sc, join with a sl st.

Attach the leaf to the stem at the desire height.


You can insert either a metal wire or a wooden stick all the way into the stem to make the flower stand still.
