Valentine Bear Free Crochet Pattern



Hi my crafty friends! Hope your week is off to a good start!


The Holiday Season and all those amazing Christmas crafts are way behind us, but don't worry because a sweet time is yet to come and it'll bring some nice and fun crochet projects!


Either you want to say I LOVE YOU to your better half or surprise your little one with the sweetest surprise, I'm sure this cute Valentine Bear will suit your needs.


Choose your favorite yarns, colors and hooks...it's time to crochet!

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

YARN: Medium Weight Cotton Yarn (Lace 4) in White, Red and Black

OTHER MATERIALS: Black Felt

HOOK SIZES: E/3.25 mm

STITCHES USED and ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), triple crochet (tr), back loop only (BLO), decrease (dec), increase (inc), fasten off (F/O).

INSTRUCTIONS: work in rounds (join with a sl st and ch1 at the end of each round) otherwise instructed.

HEAD (white yarn)

1) 8 sc in a mr (8)

2) sc inc around (16)

3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)

4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (32)

5) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (40)

6) *4 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (48)

7) *5 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (56)

8-16) sc even (56)

17) *6 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (64)

18) sc even (64); start stuffing the head

19) *6 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (56)

20) *5 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (48)

21) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (36)

22) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (24); F/O and cut the yarn.

Finish stuffing the head tight.


MUZZLE (white yarn)

1) crochet 5 chains, work 2 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 2 sc, 4 sc in the last st, keep working on the other side of the foundation chain, 2 sc, 1 sc inc in the last st that already contains 2 sc (12)

2) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (18)

3) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)

4) sc even (24)

5) working in BLO only, sc even (24)

6) working in both loops now, sc even (24); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the muzzle onto the head between rounds #12-20. Stuff the muzzle as you sew it.

Cut an oval shaped piece of black felt and either glue it or sew it onto the muzzle.

Embroider the vertical line below the nose with black yarn.

Embroider the EYES with black yarn between rounds #9-12 (9 stitches apart).


BODY (white yarn)

1) 8 sc in a mr (8)

2) sc inc around (16)

3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)

4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (32)

5) sc even (32)

6) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (40)

7-12) sc even (40)

13) *3 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (32)

14) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (24); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to attach the body to the head. Stuff the body tight.


HEART (red yarn)

1) in a magic ring work 3 ch, 3 tr, 3 dc, 1 tr, 3 dc, 3 tr, 3 ch and sl st into the mr; pull the tail of yarn tight and use it to sew the heart onto the belly of the bear, between rounds #5-12.


LEGS (red and white yarn; make 2)

1) start working with red yarn, 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) sc inc around (12)

3) switch to white yarn, *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (18)

4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (24)

5-6) sc even (24)

7) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (18)

8) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (12)

9) sc even (12)

10) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (8)

11) sc dec around (4); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the leg to the side of the body between round #6-9. Stuff the paw before sewing it to the body.


EARS (white and read yarn; make two)

1) start working with white yarn, 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) sc inc around (12)

3) 5 sc, switch to red, 2 sc, switch back to white yarn, 5 sc (12)

4) 4 sc, switch to red, 4 sc, switch back to white yarn, 4 sc (12)

5) 4 sc, switch to red, 4 sc, switch back to white yarn, 4 sc (12); F/O and leave a long tail of white yarn to sew the ear between rounds #5-9 of the head.

do not stuff the ear, flatten it before attaching it to the head.


ARMS (white yarn; make 2)

1) 8 sc in a mr (8)

2) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (10)

3) sc even (10)

4) *3 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice (8)

5) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice (6); stuff the arm lightly

6) flatten the arm and crochet through both layers now, 3 sc (3); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the arm to the side of the body between rounds #11-13.


TAIL (white yarn)

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (8)

3) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice (6); F/O and leave a long string of yarn to sew the tail to the back of the body, between rounds #5-7.
