Victor the Mushroom Free Crochet Pattern



The Michigan Fall hasn’t disappointed this year and has gifted us with the most amazing colors again. I've been enjoying taking long walks into the woods to get the best look at the nature around, smell the autumn scents, walk onto the crunchy leaves...


...and meet little creatures as this cute red-and-white spotted toadstool!


His name is Victor - he's a friendly and fun little mushroom!

I had a lot of fun designing and crocheting Victor.

It is a fairly quick project that can be personalized with just a little bit of creativity!



Here's the FREE pattern!


YARN: Light (3) in Beige, White, Red; Classic Cotton Thread in Black

MATERIALS: C2 - 2.75 mm Hook; Poly Filling

DIMENSION: H. 6” x W. 3.5”

ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), stitch (st), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc),

half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), back loop only (BLO),

front loop only (FLO), fasten off (F/O) SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

INSTRUCTIONS: work in rounds (join with a sl st and ch 1 at the end of each round) unless otherwise instructed.

LEGS AND BODY (beige, white and red yarn)

Make two:

1) starting off with beige yarn, 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) sc inc around (12)

3) sc even (12)

4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (16)

5-6) sc even (16)

Do not cut the yarn once you have completed the 2nd leg, INSTEAD CH 6.

Merge the two legs together:

7) join the yarn with a sl st to the 2nd leg, ch 1 and sc in the same st, crochet around 15 sc, 6 hdc (between the two legs), keep working on the other leg, 16 sc, 6 hdc (between the two legs) (44)

8) 15 sc, 1 sc inc, 1 sc, 1 sc inc, 2 sc, 1 sc inc, 1 sc, 1 sc inc, 15 sc, 6 sc (48)

9) *5 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (56)

10-19) sc even (56)

20) *5 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (48)

21-23) sc even (48)

24) *4 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (40)

25) sc even (40); start stuffing

26) working in BLO, sc even (40)

27-34) working in both loops now, sc even (40)

35) switch to white yarn, *1 dc, 1 dc inc*, repeat ** around (60)

36) *2 dc, 1 dc inc*, repeat ** around (80)

37) dc even (80) 38) switch to red yarn, working in back loop only, sc even (80)

39-40) working in both loops now, sc even (80)

41) *8 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (72)

42) *7 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (64)

43) *6 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (56)

44) *5 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (48)

45-46) sc even (48); keep stuffing as you go

47) *4 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (40)

48) *3 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (32)

49) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (24)

50) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (18)

51) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (12); finish stuffing

52) sc dec around (6); F/O, close the hole and wave in end

Embroider the EYES between rounds # 31-33, 4 stitches apart.

Embroider the MOUTH between rounds # 27-28.

Apply some pink blush to the cheek with a make-up brush.

Apply some brown eyeshadow to the feet with a make-up brush.

RING (beige yarn)

1) holding the mushroom upside down, insert the hook into the front loop of the 1st st of rnd #26, join the beige yarn with a sl st, work 1 sc into the same st, 3 sc, 1 sc inc, *4 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** till the end of the round (48)

2) *5 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (56); F/O, cut the yarn and wave in end

ARMS (beige yarn; make two)

1) 8 sc in a mr (8)

2) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (10)

3-4) sc even (10)

5) *3 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice (8)

6-7) sc even (8)

9) *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice (6); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn. Do not stuff the arm, sew it to the side of the body, between rnds # 22-24.

SCALES (white yarn)

Small scale

1) 8 sc in a mr (8); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn.

Medium scale

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) sc inc around (12); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn.

Big scale

1) 8 sc in a mr (8)

2) sc inc around (16); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn.

Sew the scales on top of the mushroom’s cap.
